Juni | Artist & Art Educator

Juni is an experienced artist and art educator with over 16 years of experience inspiring students and creating captivating artwork in both Canada and China. Originally from China, Juni brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to her work, blending Eastern and Western art traditions to create a modern sense.

Juni’s artistic journey began at age 9 when she started studying under renowned Chinese artist Dewei Zhao, establishing a foundation that would shape her lifelong art pursuit.

Her formal art education continued at the prestigious mini art program at Qingdao No.6 Secondary School, one of China’s top institutions for young artists. Juni later graduated from Suzhou University School of Design with a BFA in Fashion Design in 1996, where she earned several design awards and then successfully established her own fashion business in China.  She moved to Canada in 2014.

During the pandemic, Juni found herself struggling between market demands and truth self towards art. Juni bought countless colors, trying to force a style that wasn’t hers. The more she experimented without a limited palette , the further she drifted from her true art voice.  

In December 2023, while working on a charcoal portrait, everything clicked. The fluid interplay of light and shadow, inspired by Rembrandt, combined with her fashion design background and Chinese calligraphy, created something unique. 

Juni formed a strong interest in conceptual thinking and composition design. Feeling a strong need to communicate her experiences and interpretations of the people and places she was seeing.

Juni believes that authenticity isn’t about following trends – it’s about following her heart. Today, each portrait she create, captures not just images, but the essence of human experience through timeless techniques.
